Literacy Programs

Learning one step at a time.
Literacy skills develop one step at a time. It is essential to ensure that each step is mastered to move forward to the next. In this way, a foundation of literacy skills is established to support future learning and progress. Every program offered by Mosaic Learning Solutions is initiated by a holistic approach involving a complete assessment of each child's strengths, challenges, motivations, behaviors and lifestyle factors. It is with all these pieces that a personalized program for each child is designed and steps toward success are taken together.

Mosaic Learning Solutions is pleased to offer the following  programs

Foundations Program:
Planting the Seeds

The Mosaic Foundations reading  program is designed for younger readers in developing and improving the basic phonetic awareness skills. Developing basic phonetic awareness is necessary for reading, yet it takes some children longer to establish these skills. If this phonetic basis isn't in place then reading will become a frustrating task. Every step in the progression of reading then becomes more and more difficult and struggles become evident. Planting the seeds to develop a foundation of literacy skills establishes a solid phonetic foundation for reading success and  prevents frustration and difficulties later on.
The Foundations reading support program is based on the Orton-Gillingham approach and involves multi-sensory methods to engage and motivate. This program involves weekly/bi-weekly 1 hour visits with at home follow up practice.

Support Program:
Nurturing Skills
Learning to read is not a natural or innate process. It requires a variety of skills such as auditory processing, phonetic awareness, effective eye tracking as well as attention skills and perseverance. It also requires time and practice for everyone, yet some require more support and practice then others.
The Mosaic Support Program is designed to reinforce these pieces of the reading process as required by each child to nurture and support literacy skills as well as improve confidence. This program involves an initial intensive 3 hour session followed by 1 hour weekly/bi-weekly facilitation with at home practice as needed.

 Intensive Program:
Cultivating growth
Research has shown that a child that is behind in reading must make a leap in their literacy skills to catch up to their peers or risk falling further behind. In order to make this leap, a program with consistency and and intensity is required.
Mosaic Intensive programs are designed for those children who are falling behind significantly in their literacy skills.  These programs are tailored to the child's specific needs, learning styles, and motivations and involve 30 hours of direct facilitation in a one to two week time frame. At home practice and follow-ups are required to maintain results and promote further progress. *Results expected are at least one grade level improvement in reading at program completion.

* Based on comparison of reading assessments pre-program and post program. Reading fluency and comprehension levels assessed using Ekwall/Shanker Reading Inventory
